The Story
of MEZAN

Celebrated for its golden sun, turquoise waters and gently swaying palm trees, the Caribbean is also home to one of the world’s oldest and most beloved spirits: rum.
For centuries, rum production has flourished among this myriad of islands and countries, creating a rich and nuanced palette of aromas and styles unique to each location, each distillery.

The Story
of MEZAN

Meticulously selected by our Cellar Master, Mezan rums capture the depth and diversity of the Caribbean and offer a taste of its purest, most authentic flavors. Distilleries old and new, some founded centuries ago, others no longer in operation; all are subject to our Cellar Master’s discerning eye. He tirelessly travels throughout the region, seeking out its hidden treasures: untouched rums, artfully crafted from a single year’s distillation by a single distillery. Unsweetened, uncolored and only lightly filtered, these vintage rums represent the finest, truest expression of their producer and country of origin.

The Story
of MEZAN

Once our Cellar Master has discovered a particularly exceptional rum, he sets it aside for maturation. Under his patient watch, the rum slowly ages in ex-bourbon oak casks until it has reached the height of its potential.
It is then immediately bottled, one cask at a time, thereby preserving its singularity and ensuring that an unforgettable sensory experience lies within every drop of Mezan.

A unique brand
four reasons to love it

A unique style: untouched

All our MEZAN rums follow the same ageing and maturation rules: unsweetened, uncolored and only lightly filtered

A unique origin: The Caribbean

A rare collection of vintage rums

Crafted in Jamaica

XO

Nose

Pungent nose with fresh banana and sweet spice.

taste

Light palate, complex spice with hints of tobacco.

This small batch of 5000 bottles was carefully blended from rums produced by several different Jamaican distilleries. Our master blender has carefully selected the age and ester content of the chosen spirits so that the typical pungency and tropical flavors of Jamaican rum are shown at their very best. Each single batch of Mezan XO, is re-aged following blending, to encourage the marriage of flavors and enhance the structure and subtlety of the rum.

Available in 700ml and 750ml

Crafted in Panama

2006

Nose

Buttery caramel with a touch of dried apricots and guava.

taste

Soft on the palate, tropical marmalade flavors combining well with some burnt sugar notes.

Distinctive soft molasses based rums distilled in modern multi-column stills. The distillery grows its own cane for the production of both aguardiente and rum and also cultivates historical yeast cultures which add character and individuality to the production of their rums. The rums in this small batch have been aged twice in separate sets of white oak American Bourbon casks, to give added structure to the spirit.

Available in 700ml

Crafted in Trinidad

1996

Nose

Aromas of freshly sawn old oak, hints of bourbon cask and caramel; a well developed nose.

taste

Good structure, hints of smoky bourbon, dried coconut and violets.

Established in 1918 on the site of an old sugar factory, Caroni Distillery operated until 2002 and this rum was distilled in the modern pot and column stills added to the distillery in 1984. First blended and aged in old re-used American oak casks, this rum was re-barrelled into newer casks and left to age again before bottling.

Available in 700ml

Crafted in Jamaica

2005

Nose

Light spicy banana loaf, moving on to grassy lemon and finishing with delicate tropical honey.

taste

Balanced flavor with some higher estery hints and a light sweetness at the finish.

A working sugar estate since 1720, the Clarke Family acquired the Estate in 1918 and it has remained privately owned and managed since; the new distillery being completed in 2005. At Worthy Park the rum is all produced from molasses and double distilled in a Forsyth’s copper pot still. The company produces light and heavy rums using the estate’s proprietary yeast strains for fermentation.

Available in 700ml

Crafted in Guyana

2003

Nose

Warm earthy oaky notes, some tobacco smoke, dried citrus and cedar overtones.

taste

Light rum estery flavors, notes of clove, cinnamon and old oak.

Distilled at Diamond Distillery in the old single wooden pot and column set from the now closed Versailles Distillery. This is a typical medium-bodied Demerara style rum, distilled to a relatively low strength and made from Guyana molasses using the company’s own special yeast strain. Aged only in re-used American white oak barrels.

Available in 700ml

Crafted in Guyana

2005

Nose

A complex well-developed nose, deeper tropical touches of eucalyptus and green capsicum.

taste

Balanced ginger, guava and banana with an oaky lightly citric finish.

The Guyana 2005 from Diamond Distillery was distilled in the double wooden pot still from the original Port Mourant Estate which was founded in 1732. When the estate closed, the still was first moved to Uitvlugt Distillery and then, finally, to Diamond where it now produces medium to heavy Demerara style rum.

Available in 700ml

Ripe banana, honey leather spice.

taste

Herbal, with a touch of green anise followed by sweet spicy toffee, ripe pineapple and tropical buttery notes.

A long established sugar estate and distillery, the Long Pond Distillery in the Trelawny district of Jamaica was split off in 2009.
The current owners make a ‘Wedderburn’ style, named after a deep heavily pungent style of rum modeled on that first shipped to Wedderburn Webster of London back in the late 1700’s.
Produced from a slow fermentation enhanced by the addition of dunder, this rum was double distilled through a single pot-double retort still.

Caroni has a fascinating history: they operated a cast iron still and briefly a wooden coffey still until introducing a copper still in 1945, followed by a single column in 1957 and a four column Gerb Herman still in 1980. The cast iron and wooden stills were then replaced by new twin column stills made by Messrs. Blair, Campbell & McLean Ltd., and finally further new pot stills were added in 1984. The distillery closed in 2002.

Available in 700ml - UK and Russia Only

Crafted in Jamaica

Waxy banana loaf, furniture wax.

Slightly oily and unctuous with a vibrant capsicum and oak finish.

Monymusk Distillery is Jamaica’s oldest sugar and rum-producing estate. It has been producing rum from molasses for over 200 years and traces its conception back to Sir Archibald Grant, a Scottish Baronet who named it after his estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The distillery is the largest in Jamaica and has six pot stills and three column stills. This high quality spirit is a medium-heavy ester rum and was double distilled in pot stills.

Available in 700ml - UK and Russia Only

The view

With rum, in our opinion, it is best to leave sensory analysis to the nose and palate.
